3.2 - New Envelope Requirements for 2022

The 2022 Building Energy Efficiency Standards for residential buildings include increased efficiencies for several envelope requirements, and there are improvements that have been made to better aid the designer, builder, and building official.

  • Mandatory roof deck insulation in newly constructed attic systems in Climate Zones 4 and 8-16 to meet an area-weighted average U-factor no greater than 0.184.
  • Mandatory minimum U-factor for Fenestration products including skylight decreased to 0.45
